ObesitySince the late 1980s, adult obesity has steadily increased in this country. About 64 percent of Americans are overweight and more than 30 percent are obese. Obesity affects all age groups, children, as well as adults. Establishing good dietary practices at an early age will decrease the likelihood of obesity into adulthood. Fundamentally, obesity represents an imbalance between energy intake (e.g., calorie intake) and energy output (expended both as physical activity and metabolic activity. Although there has been much discussion about the appropriate makeup of the diet in terms of relative proportions of macronutrients (fats [lipids], carbohydrates, and protein) that provide calories, and the foods that provide these macronutrients, for maintenance of a healthy body weight, it is the consumption and expenditure of calories that is most important. Persons struggling with obesity can benefit tremendously from BioSET® and nutritional therapy. Often individuals crave the very food that is most harmful to the body. Learning to identify this and eliminating the body's heightened sensitivity to allergenic foods can result in weight loss and improved overall health. |
